VERONICA’S EDIBLE FAMILY PORTRAIT
This project was a result of my migratory adventures in Holland, where I met my dear Korean friend Zebby and our friendship has connected me with Cafe Slobbie in Seoul, it is ‘Organization Yori’‘s 2nd restaurant. their staple menu called “GttaeGttae Babsang” – it’s Korean home-style meal setting with an everyday changing menu. Everyday they document their menu with photos and post them on their Facebook page. At Cafe Slobbie, they host a workshop every month called “All-Right Table”, it is an inclusive, caring, open minded workshop they invite presenters to share differences and similarities through cooking and eating together to share their story at the same table.
My “All-Right Table” workshop is called “Veronica’s Edible Family Portrait” where I share my migratory life in the past 27 years through home cooking and cooking demonstration of my family’s Chinese home-cooking.
As a reflection of my own migratory journey and family home cooking, I decided to prepare a meal that screams “HOME” to me. Being one of the first person to feed me, my grandma’s cooking and dishes always feels like home, so I have enlisted her help in Hong Kong to teach me how to make some of her famous dishes.
